Guardians

So! Considering our last post was titled it’s been a while this has truly been a long while. The company have since moved to the south west of Ireland and while we try and get our own stuff up and running, both of us have subcontracted ourselves out. I worked with Indiepics in development for a short while which was brilliant, a nice way to meet people n the industry here. Mark has just finished his contract as a self shooting PD on the new digital series called Guardians which is out on BBC Earth’s Youtube channel. It is a fantastic 6 part series covering the lives of people who are putting themselves on the line to protect wildlife. This series was made by Zandland Films in conjunction with The Royal Foundation and the first episode is Mark’s, based in the Central African Republic. The series is fronted by HRH Prince William and the remaining episodes will be released weekly.

Mark is no stranger to the CAR and he was very excited to return there, even for a few whirlwind days. The story was focussed on Modiki who recently won Africa’s Best Field Ranger of The Year Award. Modiki has gone from poacher to protector and this story follows him and his team, giving insight into the invaluable work they do in protecting forest elephants, gorillas, bongos and a whole host of other precious species. The CAR story was made with the help of Chengeta Wildlife and the WWF.

Hiking through thick jungle and meeting his old friends the sweat bees, it was a physically tough shoot for Mark and the team but also really rewarding. The film is brilliant if we may say so ourselves and seems to have been received well so it is with excitement that we await the releases of the remaining five.
